Follow the instructions below to manage Core Shields settings or set exclusions for File Shield, Web Shield, and Email Shield.

Manage Core Shields settings

To manage settings for any of the Core Shields:

  1. In your Applications folder, double-click the Avast icon to open the application.
  2. Click Core Shields.
  3. Click the Settings icon.
  4. Click the check box next to a setting to uncheck (disable) it.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID or enter your Administrator password and click OK.

Exclude files from File Shield

To exclude files, folders, or applications from being scanned by File Shield:

  1. In your Applications folder, double-click the Avast icon to open the application.
  2. Go to ☰ MenuSettingsCore Shields.
  3. Click Add Exceptions in the File Shield section.
  4. Select the file, folder, or application you want to exclude from scanning, then click Open.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID or enter your Administrator password and click OK.

The file path is added to the exceptions list. To remove an excluded item, click the exception's file path panel, then click the trash can icon.

Exclude websites from Web Shield

To exclude websites or domains from being scanned by Web Shield:

  1. In your Applications folder, double-click the Avast icon to open the application.
  2. Go to ☰ MenuSettingsCore Shields.
  3. Click Add Exceptions in the Web Shield section.
  4. Enter the URL of the website you want to exclude from scanning and select the service type, then click Add.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID or enter your Administrator password and click OK.

The website is added to the exceptions list. To remove an excluded website, click the website's panel, then click the trash can icon.

Exclude mail servers from Email Shield

To exclude mail servers from being scanned by Email Shield:

  1. In your Applications folder, double-click the Avast icon to open the application.
  2. Go to ☰ MenuSettingsCore Shields.
  3. Click Add Exceptions in the Email Shield section.
  4. Enter the URL of the mail server you want to exclude from scanning and select the service type, then click Add.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID or enter your Administrator password and click OK.
